Get the Keeper of the Seven Keys album, and let me know what you think Look into US speed/power - stuff like Destiny's End, Liege Lord, etc. Try out Savage Circus. It's similar to Blind Guardian, but I actually like it a bit better. Get the Dreamland Manor album. Like almost all power metal, it's got clean vocals, but they are kind of raspy and not girly. Try Stormwarrior as well. It's a combination of Viking and Power metal. Get the Heading Northe album. It's going to be more "uplifting" than the rest of this stuff, but it's pretty good. Try Crystal Eyes as well. It's power metal, but it's different than a lot of power metal. It's worth checking out. Let me know if any of this stuff works for you, I'd be happy to recommend more. I tried to get a broad spectrum of stuff, so that you can try it all. I stayed away from the ultra-symphonic, and the "FUCK YEAH SLAY THE DRAGON" kind of metal, since I'm sure you're not going to like that very much. In particular I would recommend Kiske-era Helloween (or maybe Deris era if Kiske's vocals bother you), and Savage Circus.

But for some reason I'm a metalhead that prefers people singing rather than growling, and that's most of the appeal of power metal. I don't pick fights between genres - I think trying to claim Metal Genre X is better than metal genre Y is asinine, but I personally prefer power metal. If you don't like it, it has to be either the vocals or the "uplifting" feel of a lot of power metal. I suppose it could be the lyrics, but black metal lyrics aren't really that great most of the time anyway. One more band to try - Sacred Oath. Check out their self titled.

I find myself indifferent to most power metal but consider those bands to be some of the best things in metal, ever. I find most Power Metal isn't "happy" enough... rather, it rehashes the same simple structures of basing songs on simple minor key riffs and melodies. It gets really tiring. Although it's listenable and kind of funny the Katy Perry cover is perfectly illustrative of tedious power metal cliches.

Think of Windir, for example. Pretty decent music and guitar melodies (Valfar said that's the focus of his music), but in comes the screeching to ruin my nice listening experience and doom it from being taken seriously by any of my friends, let alone myself. Seriously, imagine if you took Mozart's Dies Irae and introduced a retard foaming at the mouth that bellows out RARR RARRR RARRR at the sky in that infamous Horgh from Immortal pose.
