Wow thanks OP, I've been looking for Ai Aso since her split with Wata.

Have the split:
Ai Aso/Wata - She's So Heavy (Split)
>folky, dreamy music; contains Wata's best guitar solo

Sorry for RS.

Well Masonna is a pretty cool guy if you like noise, but I couldn't recommand any particular album, I just know about this one : http://www.gutsofdarkness.com/god/objet.php?objet=4959
Wich is good but you have to know what you'll listen to : it's very, very harsh noise.

Check this before downloading : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKuZzR2FknI

(and gg, Sigh and Boredoms are both awesome)

How is nationality relevant for music? ):

Joe Hisaishi - Another Piano Stories was good.

He has tons of good stuff. Get his first Piano Stories album (like for real, that one was just great). I had to get the latest one from japan, actually. Kind of a shame since it was so good.

Hold on while I upload them

Sometimes people just want to hear something from a certain country for the same of hearing something good from that country.
There's also the chance of weeaboo.

I listen to a lot of music, any nationality.
But very often, I stick to japanese bands.
I mean, why is it so weird when most people only listen to UK or US bands ?

>>6826644
Most people on this board speak english only or as their first language. The UK and USA make up the large majority of english language music, not that I only listen to music in english, but primarily do.

I just dislike the whole "it's japanese so it must be good" thing. Not that the "it's japanese so it must be terrible" thing is any better.

also here's piano stories number 1 from 1989 or so

and here's the newest piano stories (the artist name is in the japanese writing system so the link looks weird)

hope you like it

I think we just have to face the fact that as soon as you express a liking for Japanese music the weaboo accusation going to be flung around. Some individuals like to think that theyre the only ones capable of sincerity.

> I just dislike the whole "it's japanese so it must be good" thing.
Of course not.
Never said that, japanese, like americans or english, does have shit mainstream music.
But they do have unique excellent music too.
For example, I may be wrong but I don't see any english Melt banana, Shiina Ringo, Boris, Zazen boys...
And anyway, when it's good, it's good. nationality doesn't matter.
Plus, I like the sonority of japanese language.
>> Anonymous 01/04/10(Mon)08:45 No.6826924
>>6826840
Yeah.
I may be considered as a weaboo since I like japanese culture and anime, but I truly like music in general too, from pop to experimental, japanese music is just a part of it.
Weaboos, on the contrary, listen to jpop only most of the time.
Accidentally, they like some good bands too, for their image (lol Polysics so randum XD)

OK. Sonority basically means you like the sound of it, which no one but some college professor discussing classical music would most likely every use. You just sounded like you were purposefully being pretentious.

Not exactly the same.
I don't know each and every Melvins album, but I'm not sure they have the psychedelic side Boris have.

Versailles - Noble

>Japanese power metal. Lyrics mostly japanese. Features Hizaki and Teru as the guitarists. If you can tolerate the uniforms, this band is outstanding, one of my favorite albums.

They do. "Crybaby" and parts of "Hostile Ambient Takeover."

Boris took their name from a Melvins song. They're the Japanese version of the Melvins.
>> Anonymous 01/04/10(Mon)09:06 No.6827121
>>6827103
My bad.
Well, Boris is still fucking good, and despite the similar parts, I don't feel like I'm listening to the Melvins when I listen to Boris.

Boris are not carbon copies of Melvins. They took a lot from them, but there's a ton of differences.
>> Anonymous 01/04/10(Mon)09:08 No.6827145
>>6827122

They are, but their entire ethos comes straight from the Melvins. The Melvins were referred to as the godfathers of grunge without having ever played the damn genre, though they played everything from sludge to stoner, doom, drone doom, psychedelic rock, punk, so on and so forth.

That's what Boris do. Are they carbon copies of the Melvins? Of course not, but in name-sake they're theoretically the same band. I'd just sleep with Wata sooner than I would Buzzo (I think, close race).

I don't want to sound like I hate Boris, I've been on board with them since "dronevil" came out in the states. Just pointing out the fact that they pretty much are the Japanese version of the Melvins.
