Oldschool isn't any better than new radio rap. Rap fags always complain about abstract hip hop and alternative hip hop but the majority of that shit is at least a thousand times better than anything Tupac or Biggie has put out. When the legends are suddenly on par with the writing abilities of acts like cLOUDDEAD or Dalek, then I will fold and admit their greatness.

If you like them, you should be able to admit that oldschool hip hop artists were terrible writers. I was reading through the booklet of cLOUDDEAD's Ten and I thought I was reading something from William S. Burroughs. Their lyrics are well written and creative, while pretty much all old and new school acts make use of monotonous rhyming schemes and stupid similes. " HURRR SASQUATCH FEET HUURR MOHAMED HURRR NIGGAS" is pretty much what I hear (Although less exaggerated.) from most "underground" rap artists.

I can't believe you're comparing clouddead to old school hip hop writers because all of them have different styles.
>> Anonymous 01/03/10(Sun)17:54 No.6814381
>>6814203
Every rapper after Rakim stopped the monotonous rhyming.
They use a lot imagery in their lyrics, switch their flow more often than many modern underground artists and worked their voice tone to have a unique style. The only thing is that the themes of the songs tend to be about life in the ghetto and stuff (still, De La Soul, for exemple, managed to do something different), as opposed to many modern rappers that aren't afraid to talk about different subjects. I'm pretty sure that's why you don't relate to old school hip hop.

if you don't think black people listen to all types of hip hop, backpacker included, you are simply wrong and probably have a perception of black people limited to what you see on TV.

yes some black people listen to commercial rap. some listen to backpacker rap. some even listen to slayer. is that really so hard to believe?
